JOHNSON COUNTY/UNION COUNTY – Southbound I-57 between the Johnson and Union County line was closed for about two hours Monday evening following a crash involving four vehicles. Two of those vehicles were semis.

According to Illinois State Police, at 5:15 p.m., a semi hauling steel lost its load after it shifted and fell onto the roadway on southbound I-57 at mile marker 38. Another semi slowed due to the steel on the roadway and was struck from behind by a passenger vehicle. The passenger vehicle was then hit by another vehicle.

One person was taken to an area hospital with injuries.

Southbound I-57 reopened to traffic at 7:15 p.m.

ISP says no further information is available.
