MT. VERNON (WMIX) – A nearly yearlong operation involving the Mt. Vernon Police Department/Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Joint Narcotics Unit, the FBI and the U.S. Marshal’s Service went into action Friday morning in the Mt. Vernon and Jefferson County area, with the service and execution of state and federal warrants at multiple locations.

According to Mt. Vernon Police Chief Trent Page, the local and federal agencies began making arrests of people believed involved in the trafficking of narcotics.

Chief Page says an FBI Tactical Team served federal warrants on three separate locations while Mt. Vernon Police served state issued warrants on two other locations and the U.S. Marshal’s Service served warrants on four separate locations.

Page says in total, seven people were taken into custody with three being interviewed and released.

Two of the four remaining in custody include 28-year-old Dantrez D. Brown on state charges of Class X manufacture with the intent to deliver cocaine, Class 2 felony delivery of fentanyl and Class 3 felony delivery of cannabis.

Also remaining in custody is 39-year-old Joevon C. Taylor on charges of Class 3 felony manufacture with the intent to deliver up to 500 grams of cannabis and Class 4 felony obstruction of justice for the destruction of evidence.

Two individuals remaining in the Jefferson County Jail on federal charges from Friday’s detail include 44-year-old Marvelous C. Burnett and 35-year-old Michael Burklow.

Page says Friday’s detail was just the first round of federal charges and is definitely not the end of this operation. He says he fully expects additional charges to be filed.
