MARION – Marion Police are currently investigating the theft of a wallet stolen from inside an elderly woman’s purse while at Menards in Marion Wednesday.

According to a press release on the Marion Police Facebook page, a man wearing a grey Reebok sweatshirt and two-toned hat and a woman wearing a black sweatshirt and black hat then went to Sam’s Club in Marion where thousands of dollars in Visa gift cards were successfully purchased using the stolen credit/debit cards in the elderly woman’s wallet.

Another woman wearing a light colored long sleeve shirt and red hat was also allegedly involved in the crime.

Police say the suspect vehicle used was a black Lexus GX SUV with no front plate and possibly had a temporary tag attached.

Police say from start to finish, this two part crime all took place in 30 minutes. Police believe the suspects are likely not local residents, but targeted Marion because of its interstate accessibility.

If you have any information on these suspects or suspect vehicle, please contact Det. Maria Dwyer at the Marion Police Department at 618-993-2124, ext. 1206.
