MARION – Voters across Illinois went to the polls Tuesday to cast their vote for the candidate of their choice in the various races on the Republican and Democratic Primary ballots.
One of the most closely watched races this primary season was for the 12th Congressional District as incumbent Republican Mike Bost faced former State Representative and State Senator Darren Bailey, a Republican from Xenia, for the seat Bost has held since being first elected to Congress in 2014. Bailey ran against Democrat Gov. JB Pritzker for Governor in 2022 and lost by over a half-million votes.
Bost beat Bailey in Tuesday’s Republican Primary to move on to the General Election in November. Bost will face Brian Roberts, who won the Democratic nomination over his challenger Preston Gabriel Nelson, in Tuesday’s primary.
Locally in the Republican Primary for the 116th District House seat, incumbent Dave Severin beat his challenger Angela Evans. No one ran for the Democratic nomination for the seat.
Republican incumbent Terri Bryant beat challenger Wesley Kash for the 58th District Senate seat. No one ran for the Democratic nomination for the seat.
