CARBONDALE – The Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Illinois has announced it will be shutting down effective Friday.
According to a BGCSI press release, the organization has provided safe, inclusive, educational spaces, best-in-class programming and supportive adult mentors to thousands of young people in our communities for nearly 20 years. Regrettably, BGCSI has been put in the position that it will no longer be able to operate and will have to close its doors.
The Board of Directors made this unfortunate decision after much discussion and exploration of feasible options that would allow for continued operation of the organization. Therefore, BGCSI will cease operations effective Friday.
During this closure, the board plans to explore partnership opportunities within the community that will allow for reopening and securing long-term sustainability. BGCSI remain committed to Club members, their families, and communities who have supported the organization for almost 20 years and recognize how much the children and their families need it.
Officials want to provide hope and opportunity to the youth of southern Illinois, just as they have to hundreds of children since they opened their doors in 2004. They hope that you share this vision and support them during this difficult time.
