Carbondale, IL — At approximately 0600 hours on March 16, 2026, the Carbondale Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a structure fire on Kira Court.

Upon arrival, fire personnel discovered a furnace fire that had extended into the attic space of the residence. Firefighters quickly worked to extinguish the fire in the attic and prevent further spread throughout the home. Crews conducted salvage operations simultaneously with fire suppression efforts to help protect the homeowner’s belongings and limit additional damage.

Fire personnel also assisted the homeowner with removing property from the residence.

The fire was contained to the attic area; however, there was water damage to the ceiling and areas below as a result of firefighting operations.

Following an investigation, the fire was determined to be accidental in nature. No injuries were reported.
