CARBONDALE – Carbondale Police arrested two juveniles Wednesday night in connection with Saturday night’s armed robbery in the 500 block of South Illinois Avenue.
As police were investigating, they learned about a separate incident involving a weapon. No injuries were reported.
Police were able to get arrest warrants for three suspects for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon and a search warrant for an address in the 600 block of North Bridge Street.
Police served both warrants and arrested two juveniles on the weapon charge. New information learned during the warrant service led to the third warrant being quashed.
The juveniles were eligible for detention, but juvenile probation could not find an available facility, so they were turned over to their families.
Police also arrested 18-year-old Jared Gibbs and 19-year-old Clayton Maclin, both of Carbondale, for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Attempted Armed Robbery. They were lodged in the Jackson County Jail. A juvenile was also taken into custody and later released to a family member. A discarded firearm was also recovered.
The victim told police a group of black males and females tried to rob him and that one of the suspects was armed with a gun.
