WEST FRANKFORT – Stephen Thomas Tabor, 71, of West Frankfort, Illinois, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2025.

Steve was born in Christopher, Illinois, on September 12, 1953; the third child of Harley and Minerva Tabor. His birth brought great delight to his two big sisters, Judy (Bollinger) and Jane (Kupferer).

From a young age, Steve was fascinated by all things mechanical. He had a particular love for automotive machinery and made his career in the industry, mastering everything from repairs to sales. His knowledge of cars – all cars – was encyclopedic. Steve loved to read, particularly about military history, and always had books within arms’ reach. He was a true friend to many.

Steve is survived by his loving wife, Pam Tabor; children, Christina Tabor McKercher and her husband, Ryan McKercher; Travis Kelley and Jamie Carney; and 10 grandchildren. He is also mourned by his sisters, nieces and nephew, his former wife, Tammy Ann Tabor; and many close friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 6, 2025, at Union Funeral Home in West Frankfort, Illinois, with Scott Williams officiating. Burial will be in Tower Heights Cemetery in West Frankfort, Illinois. 

Visitation will be held from 12 to 2 p.m. prior to the service.

Steve was a warm and loving son, brother, husband, father, uncle and friend. He will be deeply missed.
