BENTON – Two accidents were reported over the weekend on I-57 in Franklin County
According to Illinois State Police, a crash involving two semis with trailers happened early Saturday morning.
At 12:09 a.m., both semis were traveling on northbound I-57 near Benton when one of the semi’s started to slow down. The other semi failed to slow down and rear ended the trailer of the semi that had reduced speed.
The driver of the semi that rear ended the other semi, 41-year-old Charles A. King of Lakeland, FL, was issued a citation for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.
Then around 11:50 p.m. Saturday, an Arkansas man was injured in a single-vehicle rollover crash on northbound I-57 at milepost 68.
According to Illinois State Police, 24-year-old Anthony Pedro of Jonesboro, AR was driving his 2016 Jeep Cherokee, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle left the right side of roadway striking a guardrail. The vehicle overturned after collision and stopped in the middle of the roadway.
Pedro was transported by ambulance to an area hospital with injuries.
Both lanes of I-57 northbound at milepost 68 were shut down and reopened at 2 a.m. Sunday.
ISP says no further information is available.
