MT. VERNON – Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 56-year-old Mt. Vernon man Wednesday night on charges accusing him of child pornography and sexually abusing a child.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Darren Meyer was arrested Wednesday and booked on charges of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a victim under the age of 13 and child pornography depicting a victim under the age of 13.

An investigation began early the morning of Tuesday, Aug. 15, when the sheriff’s office received a report of a 14-year-old girl possibly being the victim of voyeurism.

The investigation led deputies to obtain search warrants for electronic devices and a home on North Sparrow Lane in Mt. Vernon where they reportedly secured evidence in the case.

As the investigation continued, evidence reportedly indicated the young girl may have been the victim of sexual abuse.

Then on Wednesday, deputies responded to a report at the North Sparrow Lane home on a report of a disturbance involving a person armed with a knife.

Meyer was identified as a suspect. He was taken into custody on charges of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse Victim under 13 and 10 counts of Possession of Child Pornography Victim under 13.

Meyer was taken to the Jefferson County Jail to await the formal filing of charges and the setting of bond.
