CARBONDALE – Carbondale Police detectives continue to investigate a stabbing that happened Friday afternoon in the 500 block of South Poplar Street.

Police say 21-year-old Phillipe J. Mignon of Carbondale was charged with Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon and Aggravated Battery in a Public Place. A Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputy located Mignon Friday night in Makanda and arrested him without incident. He is lodged in the Jackson County Jail.

In the course of the investigation, detectives learned that the attack was not random, but that Mignon targeted the victim over a personal dispute. While this proved to be a targeted attack, the Carbondale Police Department continues to urge the public to meet individuals they don’t know in a public place or a designated safe location such as the Carbondale Police Department.
