(IOCI RADIO) – Workers in Illinois would be entitled to five paid days of leave under a bill passed by lawmakers this week.
The legislation provides the five days to employees to use for any reason, including doctor’s appointments or a sick child. Rep. C.D. Davidsmayer of Jacksonville voted against the measure.
Supporters argue that workers shouldn’t have to choose between going to work when they are sick and earning a paycheck.
As many as 1.5 million workers in Illinois don’t get any time off to take care of personal needs, Sen. Kimberly Lightford of Maywood said.
The governor is expected to sign it into law.
