Illinois Becomes Ninth State to Ban Assault Weapons

(IOCI RADIO) – Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed a new law making Illinois the ninth state in the country to ban assault weapons.

Lawmakers passed the bill and the governor signed it right away, saying, “We got it done.”

The new law also prohibits the sale if high-capacity magazines and “switches” that convert legal handguns into assault weapons.

Anyone currently owning a semi-automatic firearm will have to register it with the state police.

The governor said he’s “confident” the ban will hold up in court.
