One Killed, Another Injured in Union County Crash Monday

WARE (WQRL/WISH/WMCL) – A man died and a woman was injured in a three-vehicle crash in Union County Monday night.

According to Illinois State Police, at 9:10 p.m. a 2001 blue Ford Crown Victoria driven by a 73-year-old man from Jonesboro was driving south on Illinois 3 near Refuge road and drove into oncoming traffic going north. His car sideswiped a 2019 Volkswagen Jetta driven by 57-year-old Aaron Lee of De Soto, causing Lee’s car to strike the guardrail and drive into the ditch. The Jonesboro man then struck with his car a 2005 Nissan Frontier driven by 59-year-old Peggy E. Duty of Jonesboro head-on.

Duty was taken to an area hospital with injuries. The Jonesboro man was pronounced dead on scene by the Union County Coroner. His name is not being released until family members are notified. Lee was not injured in the crash.
