(IRN) – Illinois state lawmakers return Wednesday and one issue they’re expected to take up is a proposed gun ban.
Gun control advocates and victims of gun violence have been advocating for passage of the law.
A group named Protecting Illinois Communities, which is the name of the proposed bill, released an ad urging the gun ban pass.
Gun-owner rights groups are planning lawsuits if the measure is ever enacted. They will challenge the various aspects of the bill, from the proposed ban on certain guns and magazines, to the proposed limit of only people over 21 being able to purchase or own a gun or ammo.
Todd Vandermyde, a longtime gun-rights advocate, explained why they’re not negotiating on the bill in anticipation of filing lawsuits.
More hearings are expected on House Bill 5855 when lawmakers return to the capitol Wednesday.
