WILLIAMSON COUNTY (WRXX) – Police across southern Illinois are investigating a series of drive-by shootings. The incidents happened across several towns in Williamson County early Saturday morning.
No injuries were reported, but several properties were damaged in the shootings.
According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Department, they suspect the same person or group of people are responsible for the incidents in Marion, Herrin and Carbondale.
Williamson County Sheriff Jeff Diederich said they appeared to be targeted acts and while the public should remain vigilant, there is not a cause for alarm.
These incidents are being investigated by the Herrin, Marion, and Carbondale Police Departments with the support of the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, Williamson County State’s Attorney’s Office, Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office, and the Williamson County Major Case Squad.
