Man Killed in Williamson County Officer-Involved Shooting ID’d

WILLIAMSON COUNTY – Police have released the name of the man who died in an officer-involved shooting in Williamson County Wednesday.

According to Illinois State Police, it’s 47-year-old Jeremy Fowler of Carbondale.

The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office Wednesday requested the Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 7 to investigate an officer involved shooting incident.

Preliminary information indicates the sheriff’s office responded to a call for service on Devil’s Fork Road near Carbondale. 

Upon arrival, the sheriff’s deputy encountered Fowler. As the deputy exited his patrol vehicle, Fowler began approaching the deputy with a weapon. The deputy ordered Fowler to drop the weapon. Fowler continued to advance toward the deputy and the deputy discharged his weapon striking Fowler, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The deputy was not injured in the incident.
