CARBONDALE – An officer involved shooting is under investigation in Williamson County.
According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Offfice, around 12:45 Wednesday afternoon, the sheriff’s office responded to a call for service on Devils Fork Road in Carbondale.
Upon arrival, the deputy encountered a male subject who began to approach as he exited his patrol vehicle. While approaching, the male subject produced a rifle and continued toward the deputy. The male subject was ordered to drop the weapon multiple times and failed to comply. After pointing the weapon at the deputy and continuing to advance toward his position, the deputy discharged his weapon.
The male subject was pronounced dead on scene. His name is not being released until family members are notified.
The sheriff’s office and Illinois State Police continue to investigate.
