Several counties in southern Illinois swore in new sheriffs Thursday.
Sheriff Jordan Weiss was sworn into office Thursday morning in Carmi.
Sheriff Weiss replaces Sheriff Randy Graves, who retired Wednesday after serving the last 18 months as sheriff. Graves was with the sheriff’s office for 32 years.
In Williamson County, Sheriff Jeff Diederich was sworn into office Thursday morning in Marion.
Diederich ran unopposed for sheriff in last month’s election. He replaces Sheriff Bennie Vick, who recently retired after serving as sheriff since 2010.
In Franklin County, Sheriff Kyle Bacon, who won last month’s election for sheriff, began his new duties Thursday replacing Sheriff David Bartoni, who did not seek re-election.
