Registered Sex Offender Arrested Outside Salem School Charged Friday

SALEM (WRXX) – A 30-year-old Salem man who told police he is homeless charged Friday in Marion County Court with being a registered sex offender loitering within a school zone.

Salem police arrested Russell Wimberly Thursday after he was allegedly found on Salem Community High School property.

Due to a prior Clinton County conviction for violating the sex offender registry, Wimberly would be eligible for extended sentencing if convicted of the Marion County charge.

Wimberly on Friday waived having a public defender appointed to represent him and bond was set in the case at $10,000.
