OPDYKE (WRXX) – A fire Friday afternoon in Opdyke brought out multiple fire departments to help fight the blaze that heavily damaged S and K Carports.
According to the Jefferson Fire Protection District, they responded around 3 o’clock Friday afternoon when a neighbor called to report smoke comint out of the building.
Six fire departments ultimately responded to the call. Firefighters report smoke and fire were coming through the roof upon their arrival. The 50 by 30-foot concrete block building is expected to be declared a total loss.
The area where the fire started is used for storage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s office.
Firefighters were on the scene until around six p.m. Jefferson Fire Protection District called Mt. Vernon, Benton, Ewing Northern, Bluford, and Waltonville to the scene, while Kell and Woodlawn covered the Jefferson Fire Protection District Station in the event of another call.
