State Sen. Emil Jones III Indicted on Federal Bribery Charges

CHICAGO (WRXX) – State Sen. Emil Jones III has been indicted on federal bribery charges alleging he took money from a red light camera company executive to kill legislation requiring traffic studies for camera systems. He’s also accused of lying to the FBI.

Jones is charged in a criminal information — indicating he intends to plead guilty to charges in the three-count federal indictment filed Tuesday.

The indictment claims the Democratic lawmaker who is up for reelection in November, solicited, agreed to accept, and accepted things of value from Individual A, namely a $5,000 payment and money for Individual B, intending to be influenced and rewarded in connection with a business, transaction, and series of transactions of the State of Illinois involving a thing of value of $5,000 or more, namely, legislation in the Illinois General Assembly concerning the operation of red-light cameras.
