CARBONDALE – Carbondale residents wanting to run for mayor or for one of three city council seats in the April 4, 2023 Consolidated Election can now pick up information and petition forms in the City Clerk’s office inside Carbondale City Hall on South Illinois Avenue weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The same forms and additional information are available in the 2023 Candidate’s Guide, which can be found on the Illinois State Board of Elections website.
Signed, completed forms are to be submitted to the City Clerk’s office during the statutory filing period of Monday, November 21 through Monday, November 28, 2022.
This election will be for the seats presently held by Mayor John M. Henry and Council members Lee Fronabarger, Tom Grant, and Adam Loos. All of the positions are four-year terms.
If five or more candidates file petitions for Mayor and/or 13 or more candidates file petitions for the three City Council positions, a primary election will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2023. The Consolidated Election will be held on April 4 and the elected representatives will take office at the first City Council meeting in May.
