West Frankfort Man Charged in Marion County for Battery of Nurse at Centralia Hospital

SALEM – A 33-year-old West Frankfort man has been charged in Marion County Court with aggravated battery of a nurse following an alleged incident at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia.

According to Centralia police, Brandon Brown is accused of striking a nurse in the leg with his foot. Brown was being treated at the time in the Psychiatric Department at the hospital.

Bond for Brown was set at $5,000 and he was ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim or the hospital. He was also ordered to follow recommended mental health treatment if released.

Brown pleaded guilty in March of last year in Franklin County Court to a lesser charge of misdemeanor aggravated assault on public property after previously being found unfit to stand trial.

He was remanded to the custody of the Department of Human Services to receive treatment and was later found fit.

Brown then agreed to plead guilty to the misdemeanor charge in exchange for a felony charge of threatening a public official being dismissed.
