Carbondale, Anna Among Illinois Communities Awarded Grant for Downtown, Main Street Improvements

(IOCI RADIO) – Illinois is awarding $106 million in grants to 50 communities across the state.

“This is the most money that’s been pumped into the Rebuild Illinois Downtowns and Main Streets capital program,” Gov. J.B. Pritzker said.

Projects include revitalizing the downtown square in Monmouth, improving the civic center in Niles, redeveloping downtown historic buildings in Champaign and renovating the Times Theatre in Rokcford.

In southern Illinois Carbondale was selected to receive a $2,055,040 grant to help construct the Downtown Entertainment & Events Plaza at the Washington Street Venue. The city of Anna was also selected to receive a grant for $3 million for downtown streetscape and water/sewer improvements.
