MT. VERNON – The Mt. Vernon Fire Department responded Sunday afternoon to a report of bushes on fire at an area apartment complex.
According to fire reports, around 5:30 p.m. Sunday, a single engine was dispatched to Garden Glenn apartment complex. But when they received updated information that the building was also involved, and the electrical transformer, two additional engine companies were then dispatched along with Mount Vernon Police Department.
The first arriving engine company found multiple bushes and shrubbery on fire which had produced enough heat to break out first story window and crack the second-floor window and siding above the brick at the roof peak and soffit had already melted.
A single hose line was deployed and was able to keep the fire spread out of both apartments. Damage was contained to the outside of the building minus the windows, blinds, and drapes.
All occupants were able to return to their apartments after the building was ventilated. This building’s damaged was limited and occupants were able to return home.
