Juvenile Initially Charged in Shooting Death of Marion Man

MARION – A juvenile has been initially charged in a recent shooting that led to the death of a man in Williamson County.

According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, around 10:50 p.m. Wednesday, deputies responded to a home at 13103 Griffith Ln. in Marion and found 57-year-old Shawn J. Adams suffering from a gunshot wound. Adams was pronounced dead by the Williamson County Coroner’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said a 17-year-old male juvenile was taken into custody at the scene without incident. He has been initially charged with aggravated battery with a firearm and first-degree murder. The juvenile was transported to the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Center, where he is being held pending a court appearance.

An autopsy, performed by the Williamson County Coroner’s Office’s Forensic Pathologist Dr. Christopher Kiefer, showed the apparent cause of death was from a gunshot wound. Further autopsy results are pending, according to officials.

The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office along with the Williamson County Coroner’s Office and Illinois State Police Crime Scene are continuing an investigation into the incident.
