(IOCI RADIO) – Illinois now has an officials stat snake.
The eastern milksnake has been added to the list of state symbols, based on recommendations from a 7th grader, Gentry Heiple, at Carterville Junior High. During debate, Sen. Dale Fowler of Harrisburg gave his colleagues the history of the particularly variety of reptile.
The eastern milksnake is found across Illinois and ranges from 24 to 36 inches long. It’s not poisonous and is sometimes bred as a pet.
