Carbondale Man Facing Gun Charges for Friday Incident

CARBONDALE – A Carbondale man is facing gun-related charges after Carbondale Police responded to a business in the 1900 block of South Illinois Avenue early Friday morning in reference to a report of a disorderly person .

According to Carbondale Police, officers arrived and identified the disorderly person as 49-year-old Antwoine C. Smith of Carbondale.  

During the course of the investigation, Smith was found to have two Jackson County warrants for his arrest for Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon and for Failure to Appear in court for Battery. Smith was also found to be in possession of two firearms. One firearm was reported stolen during a prior theft case investigated by the Carbondale Police Department in January 2022.  

Officers arrested Smith for both warrants and charged him with Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon and Possession of a Stolen Firearm. 

Smith was lodged in the Jackson County Jail.
