(IOCI RADIO) – Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed two new laws Monday to protect Illinoisans with disabilities when it comes to housing and participating in state government.
Rep. Lashawn Ford of Chicago sponsored the first piece of legislation, which prohibits discriminating against someone seeking housing because of their “source of income,” including retirement or disability payments, Section 8 vouches and other “non-wage” income.
Chicago, Cook County, Naperville and Urbana already have a similar law in place.
Another measure will create a special task force to determine how to make the state capitol grounds more accessible to those with disabilities.
