MT. VENRON – A local manufacturer is facing more than $340,000 in penalties after being issued multiple citations from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) after three workers were recently injured.
According to an OSHA news release, three workers at Continental Tire in Mount Vernon suffered “severe injuries” in two separate incidents in November 2021.
In the first incident, an employee unjamming a machine suffered the amputation of three fingers.
The following day, one employee suffered severe burns requiring hospitalization and another employee suffered a concussion injury after an industrial rubber-compound mixer exploded.
OSHA issued two citations for two repeated, 16 serious and five other than serious violations.
Inspectors allege Continental Tire the Americas LLC had deficient safety procedures for energy control, combustible dust preventative engineering, housekeeping, personal protective equipment, emergency egress routes and hazard communication.
