Police Arrest Man on Gun Charges After Shots Fired in Harrisburg

HARRISBURG – Harrisburg Police said a man is facing gun charges following a report of shots fired in the 200 block of West Lincoln Street Thursday afternoon.

Police said Saline County Central Dispatch received several 911 calls around 3 p.m. reporting gunshots in the area mentioned and also received a 911 call from a man reporting his motorcycle had been shot by a man.

The caller gave dispatch a description of the suspect, which was passed along to responding officers. Further investigation revealed the suspect had gotten into a white Dodge Charger a short time after the incident happened.

Around 3:10 p.m., Saline County Sheriff’s deputies located the white Dodge Charger in the 400 block of West Walnut Street in front of a home. Everyone inside the car including the suspect were taken into custody without incident.

Police said the suspect was identified as Dwayne E. Bruce. Officers discovered that Bruce had left the vehicle and approached a home. They also located at 9mm handgun outside a home in the 400 block of West Walnut Street.

Bruce has been informally charged with Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapons, Possession of a Stolen Firearm and Possession of a Weapon by a Felon.

The Harrisburg Police Department was assisted by the Saline County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police and the Carrier Mills Police Department.
