The Illinois Department Of Natural Resources has released preliminary totals for the 2022 youth turkey season and show Jefferson County and Marion County at the top.
Youth turkey hunters harvested 12-hundred-and-58 birds on March 26th and 27th and April 2nd and 3rd in Illinois.
Jefferson County hunters brought in 54 turkeys – that’s one more than last year. And Marion County youth hunters brought in 44 in Marion County birds, which was three more than last year.
Those totals placed Jefferson County as first in the state and Marion County as third.
More than 13-hundred turkeys were taken last year. The record total was set in 2020 when just over 17-hundred turkeys were harvested.
