MT. VERNON – A Mt. Vernon man was charged Tuesday morning in Jefferson County Court with seven felony child pornography offenses.

According to Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy Detective Bobby Wallace, the sheriff’s office received a tip Monday through its mobile app claiming 67-year-old Roy Staley had child pornography on multiple devices.

An investigation was launched, and a warrant was issued to search Staley’s apartment and devices.

Wallace said several files were subsequently located on at least one of Staley’s electronic devices and he was taken into custody.

Prosecutors on Tuesday filed two Class X felony charges against Staley for reproduction of child pornography of a victim under the age of 13, four Class 2 felony counts of possessing child pornography of a victim under the age of 13, and one Class 2 felony charge of possessing a child pornography movie or video.

Staley remains in the Jefferson County Jail awaiting the setting of bond and the formal filing of charges.
