CARBONDALE – Carbondale Police Saturday received several reports of a scam.
Police said the victims received calls from a person claiming to be a sergeant from the Carbondale Police Department and told them that they were in legal trouble.
The victims were instructed by the suspect that they were required to immediately make an online payment in order to resolve the legal issue. The name provided by the scammer was that of an actual retired Carbondale Police sergeant.
The Carbondale Police Department does not call anyone and request money over the phone.
If anyone receives a similar call, immediately hang up, then call the Carbondale Police Department at 618-457-3200.
