Tunnel Hill Man Killed in Johnson County Shooting

JOHNSON COUNTY – Illinois State Police (ISP) said an homicide investigation is underway in Johnson County.

According to a press release from ISP, 51-year-old Joseph E. Geyman of Tunnel Hill suffered injuries sustained by gunfire and died late Saturday night after a shooting in the 6000 block of Dutchman Lake Road.

The suspect in the shooting, 68-year-old Larry D. Cavitt of Goreville, was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder (Class X Felony). Cavitt is in custody at Massac County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.

Anyone with information about this incident should contact the ISP Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) Zone 7 at 542-2171 Extension 1207.

ISP said no further information will be released at this time. ISP Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 7 in conjunction with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office investigated the incident.
