HERRIN – A substitute teacher at Herrin High School was taken to a hospital following an incident at the school Friday morning.
According to a release from the City of Herrin, at approximately 7:36 a.m., a substitute teacher exhibited strange behavior in a classroom where no students were located. Another teacher noticed the incident and notified the school’s administration and Herrin Police.
Officials said police responded immediately and made contact with the teacher in the classroom. The substitute teacher was taken into protective custody and then transported to Herrin Hospital’s emergency room via ambulance.
The school was temporarily on “lockdown,” which has since been lifted and students resumed their normal school day.
Students weren’t present in the classroom during the incident and no students or staff were injured.
