Better Business Bureau Warning of Child Tax Credit Scams

CHICAGO (AP) – The Better Business Bureau (BBB) is warning people of scammers ahead of the July 15th advancements of monthly checks to citizens eligible for the Child Tax Credit.

The IRS will begin issuing monthly checks to Illinoisans eligible for the Child Tax Credit starting on July 15th. Once checks start to be delivered, the BBB warns recipients to be wary of imposter scams.

Chief Executive Officer for the Better Business Bureau Chicago, Steve Bernas said “when the government is in the news, scammers will emerge.” Bernas also encouraged people to be on the lookout for certain questions if called by a potential con artist.

The BBB advises Illinoisans to report potential scams at their website BBB.org/ScamTracker regardless of if they have lost money or not.
