Errors in New Illinois Budget Corrected by Lawmakers

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (IOCI RADIO) – Errors in the new state budget are being corrected.

The effective date of the budget was incorrect when it was passed at the end of the legislative session. The original budget passed wouldn’t take effect until 2022.

The governor fixed the mistake with an amendatory veto and lawmakers accepted the change. State Rep. Greg Harris of Chicago called it “a good spending plan.”

The revision drew criticism, however, from Republicans like State Rep. Mike Marron of Danville. He argued the mistake wouldn’t have happened had there been more time to review the plan.

The state’s new fiscal year begins July 1.
