Multiple road construction projects beginning Tuesday will force lane closures in southern Illinois.
According to IDOT, road construction on I-57 from Old Illinois 13 in Marion to Johnston City will require lane closures starting tonight at 7, weather permitting.
The contractor will work nightly from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Work includes pavement patches, pavement removal and replacement at the underpasses, milling, resurfacing and pavement markings. Work is expected to be finished by Oct. 15.
To avoid any delays, officials advised to another route. Emergency vehicles will be allowed through the work zone as quickly as possible.
Elsewhere, road construction on westbound Illinois 13 in Carbondale will force lane closures between Lewis Lane and Wall Street will also begin tonight at 7, weather permitting.
According to IDOT, the contractor will be resurfacing the roadway on this section nightly from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. At least two lanes will remain open during the day. The work is expected to last one to two weeks.
Message boards and traffic control devices will be in place to direct motorists.
