‘Fix the FOID’ Legislation to Face Full Illinois House Vote

SPRINGFIELD (IRN) – “Fix the FOID” legislation is advancing in the Illinois House.

The measure, sponsored by State Rep. Kathleen Willis of Northlake, requires fingerprints and a background check for those wanting a FOID card, offers an electronic version of the card and creates an online prohibited persons portal for law enforcement agencies to check if someone is not legally allowed to own a gun.

Opponents, such as Ed Sullivan with the Illinois State Rifle Association, is against the provisions included in the legislation.

Willis said the bill “may still undergo some fine tuning” and that negotiations continue.
