Pritzker: Illinois Acting ‘Aggressively’ to Combat Signs of COVID-19 Resurgence

SPRINGFIELD – Gov. JB Pritzker said Friday the state is acting “aggressively” to combat the first signs of a possible COVID-19 resurgance,

More than 3,000 new cases were reported Friday, the highest daily total since February 6. Pritzker said vaccine eligibility is being expanded where possible and local health departments that have plenty of vaccine may now begin offering it to anyone age 16 and older.

The largest increases have been reported in Chicago, suburban Cook County and Region One, which includes Rockford and surrounding communities.

The state nears the “bridge phase” of Restore Illinois, with 67 percent of seniors now vaccinated with at least one dose. Pritzker said officials will also look at the recent uptick in hospital admissions.
