Carbondale Police Dept. & NAACP to Adopt Shared Principles

CARBONDALE – The Carbondale Police Department and the Carbondale Branch NAACP announced that Thursday they will affirm and adopt the 10 Shared Principles originally drafted by the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police and the Illinois NAACP State Conference.

Beginning at 9 a.m. at the police department in Carbondale, Dr. Linda Flowers, Carbondale NAACP Branch President, will join Interim Chief Stan Reno to formally adopt the shared principles. Officials said the adoption will set the standard for the police department moving forward to build trust between law enforcement and the community.

The adoption of the shared principles follows many meetings across Illinois between leaders in law enforcement and diverse communities. The efforts began in 2018 as World Café-style conversations, including one hosted in Carbondale.
