White County Sheriff Retiring After 39 Years of Service

CARMI – There’s going to be a new sheriff in White County.

Earlier this week, White County Sheriff Doug Maier announced his retirement effective Feb. 28 in order to spend more time with family.

Maier is leaving after 39 years of service. He spent 21 years as a deputy before spending the last 18 as sheriff and was elected to the position five times.

The White County Republican Party earlier this week nominated Deputy Sheriff Randy Graves to be the next sheriff and fill the remainder of Maier’s term, which expires at the end of next year.

The White County Board is expected to consider Graves’ nomination when it meets next month.
