One Death, 215 COVID-19 Cases Reported in Southern Illinois

SPRINGFIELD – Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) officials announced 4,822 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday, including 107 additional deaths. Southern Illinois reports totaled 215 new cases of the novel coronavirus, including one death.

Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 1,081,354 cases, including 18,398 deaths statewide.

Local case breakdown:

  • Williamson County: 40
  • Jefferson County: 40 (14 at correctional facility)
  • Jackson County: 37, one death
  • Franklin and Massac counties: 19 each
  • Perry County: 17
  • White County: 15
  • Union County: six
  • Johnson County: five
  • Saline County: four
  • Gallatin and Alexander counties: three each
  • Hardin, Pope and Pulaski counties: two each
  • Hamilton County: one

Officials said 864,150 doses of vaccine have been delivered so far to providers throughout the state, including Chicago. In addition, approximately 524,050 doses have been allocated to the federal government’s Pharmacy Partnership Program for long-term care facilities. This brings the total Illinois doses to 1,388,200. IDPH is currently reporting a total of 537,740 vaccines administered, including 86,180 for long-term care facilities.

The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from Jan. 13–19 is 5.5 percent.
