Illinois Surpasses 1M COVID-19 Cases Statewide Thursday

SPRINGFIELD – State health officials Thursday reported 8,757 new COVID-19 cases including 177 additional deaths in Illinois, with 444 new cases and three deaths reported in southern Illinois. As a result, 1 million cases have been surpassed statewide.

The total number of cases stands at 1,008,045 including 17,272 deaths.

Local case breakdown:

  • Williamson County: 159
  • Perry County: 47 (29 at prison not included)
  • Jackson County: 46, three deaths
  • Franklin County: 41
  • Union County: 40
  • Hamilton County: 23
  • White County: 19
  • Saline County: 17
  • Massac County: 16
  • Jefferson County: 14
  • Johnson County: nine
  • Gallatin County: five
  • Pope County: three
  • Hardin and Pulaski counties: two each
  • Alexander County: one

The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from Dec. 31  through Jan. 6 is 8.5 percent.
