Zeigler – Three are dead as the result of a house fire in Zeigler yesterday afternoon. According to a release from the Zeigler Fire Department, fire crews were called out to a home on the 600 block of Vaux Street at just after noon. When crews arrived they found the home fully engulfed. Crews from the Fire Department along with officers from the Zeigler and Christopher Police Department attempted to enter the home to rescue any victims but were unable to. One woman was found outside of the home and was airlifted to a burn center. After the fire was put out, Franklin Co. Coroner Marty Leffler confirmed that three people, an adult and two children, had died in the fire. At this time the identity of the victims is being withheld pending identification. Autopsies are pending. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
