Five Arrested After Investigations at Choate Mental Health

ANNA – Five were arrested following a months-long investigation into possible aggravated battery against a resident of the Choate Mental Health Development Center.

According to a release from Illinois State Police (ISP), 39-year-old Kevin Jackson of Carbondale, an employee of Choate, is being charged with aggravated battery in relation to a January incident. Four other employees, 33-year-old Bobby Lee of Marion, 29-year-old Dalton Anderson of Jonesboro, 28-year-old Mathew Wiseman of Marion, and 40-year-old Johnny Brimm of Jonesboro were arrested in connection to a separate May incident with Jackson and Lee charged with aggravated battery, while Wiseman and Brimm face charges of obstructing justice in addition to aggravated battery.

The investigations began in January when the ISP’s Division of Internal Investigations was called to the facility to investigate the initial claim. ISP was asked to return in May after another incident was reported.

Following investigations from the Illinois Department of Human Services and ISP, the Union County State’s Attorney’s Office was able to secure indictments.
