The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office investigating events that led to a child killed by a vehicle Friday evening on route 37 north near Mt. Vernon.
According to a release, 10-year-old Braden Tate was taken to Crossroads Community hospital in Mt. Vernon before being transported to Cardinal Glennon in St. Louis, MO where he would succumb to his injuries.
A 44-year-old Fairfield man, Reggie L. Shemwell, was arrested for Aggravated Driving While License revoked and Operating Uninsured Motor Vehicle. Other charges are pending a blood and urine test.
Rome Grade School asked to honor Tate by wearing green Tuesday in his memory and a celebration of life.
