Jackson County Leads Regional Cases of COVID-19 Wednesday

SOUTHERN ILLINOIS – The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) Wednesday announced 1,337 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Illinois, including 30 additional confirmed deaths.

Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 253,690 cases, including 8,214 deaths, in 102 counties in Illinois.

Local case breakdown:

    • Jackson County: 12, one additional death
    • Saline County: five (four in isolation, one case status in progress)
    • Jefferson County: five
    • Williamson County: three
    • Franklin and Union counties: two each
    • Perry, Hardin, Johnson, Hamilton, Massac, Pope and Pulaski counties: one each

The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity rate for cases from Sept. 2-8 is 3.7 percent.
